Book review/fact: Lord of the rings

The book was written in between the years of 1937 and was published in 1954. The book was written by the English professor J.R.R. Tolkien. He studied languages and was a university professor teaching English.

The book is about a hobbit, a short and a bit more hairy version of a human, who must go on a mission to destroy a dark and powerful magic ring. Frodo, the hobbit, three of his hobbit friends and a wizard sets of towards a village where they are to meet up with a human warrior. Later on the way they also befriend a dwarf and an elf and together they venture out towards Mordor, the land of the dark lord Sauron. In Mordor they must throw the ring in the very volcano it was forged in, for the fire that created it is the only power on Middle Earth that can destroy it. But the land is filled with traps, dangerous creatures and orcs. It is a hard task the group has to complete, and even though the books has been out for 60 years I won't spoil the end.

When I read the books it didn't really give me a special feeling or anything, but it was fun reading it. I don't really have any special memories either, but he was very good at literature and describing the world and what's happening in it, if anything, that's my special memory. However afterwards when I got to know how much lore Tolkien created around his world, it caught my attention. I haven't really looked it up that much, but I really like reading about lore, and he built up an entire world, so someday I will read his other books and read about the gigantic world he created.

Questions to the movie "The Island"

1. I think it’s hard to say the main theme of this film, and if so perhaps also hard to name. But I would say mainly Friendship and a bit love. I think this because after Jordan and Lincoln had escaped they chose to return and save the others, they wanted to help their friends. They could just have sailed away and never look back at what had happened. The question the film raises is if human cloning is OK. I think that depends on how you use this technology. As they did here with killing them to save the ”original”. That would be genocide and murder, but if you treat them as human beings and not some lifeline it would probably be OK. 
2. For what reason do you think Doctor Merrick’s decided to start the facility? What do you think the Island is really saying about human cloning? Are you surprised by this in a Hollywood film?:         I think Merrick started the facility for two reasons. The first is that he wanted to help people to live longer and keep them healthy. the second reason I think is money. He could earn really much by selling clones as a lifeline to keep you alive longer. The Island in this case is to keep the hopes up so the clones just wont give up. It’s a beam of light in their dark view of the world. I am not surprised to see this in a Hollywood film, I wouldn’t be surprised by any movie made by them. Unless it’s a really really bad movie. 
3. What is the message of the film regarding the value of human life? How does this work with the fact that the film also contains a lot of violence?:         I think the message is that every human is of the same value and have the same potential as others. Even though someone is good at football and someone else is good at math. Also that you shouldn’t value others less because they’re different. They might be clones but they are still living, thinking, breathing, understanding, smart humans. I think that Merrick in the end understands their potential and the harm two clones can do if they reached higher authority. Therefore he sent out Albert Laurent and his gang to kill them, because they could crash his entire facility.
4. What does Jordan mean when she says ”the Island is real, it’s us”. What if anything, is this saying about the human hope for some paradise or for heaven:      I think what she means is that if we go really deep, we or each other can be what we are looking for, the paradise. We could also be the start for it if we just stopped fighting each other. What it’s saying about our understanding for a paradise or heaven is that we are all seeking for a place that we can call our paradise. We want to come to a place where we can do what we love and that is like our own paradise.

Summarizer Gift

(insert name of main character here) lives in Africa and is the only white girl in her school. She has been invited to Gift’s house over the Holidays. According to the whole school Gift is the sweetest and best looking guy in the school. So of course (character) is very happy that she got to follow him home. She talks about how much she likes him and how popular he is. When they have arrived Gift’s family invites (character) for dinner, but there’s no sign of Gift. The time passes and then it’s bed time. She thinks about Gift before she falls asleep. The next day Gift takes (character) to an Indian shop. There he shows up his future bride, a beautiful Indian girl. They go into another room and (character) is served some tea. The days go on and (character) spends some time out with Gift and Sunni. everyone is nice to each other, but (character) feels sad that the ”hottest” guy in school didn’t love her. But at the same time she thinks herself as a fool for not seeing what was coming, that it was obvious. It seemed that everyone else knew about the marriage but her. She thought that she wouldn’t have understood anyways and would just have denied it. But she would get over it.

Mattias and Erics summary on Lockie Leonard episode 12

In the begining Lockie was caught as if he was a dog. All he knew was that after he kissed Dot he behaved like a dog. He could stay in the dog yard for a while. Then Lockie explained why he got into the dog yard. He dreamed about kissing Dot in his dream. Egg wanted help with the gathering and Lockie's mom wanted help to put up a sign, but Lockie was only thinking of Dot. Then they went down to the beach to surf and after that they decided to meet at the wind farm. Lockie went home. Later Egg came to tell him to help and asked about the speech that they needed. Lockie said he had it in his head and that he had to practice in a quiet place. He went to the wind farm. But Dot didn’t come. When Lockie came home, Egg had alredy finished the meeting. When Lockie went to see Egg in the evening he had locked his window. But Lockie saw Egg's father that said it was Egg's parents anniversary tomorrow. So Lockie fixed a romantic dinner and said it was from Egg.
