English: Lord of the rings

Book review/fact: Lord of the rings

The book was written in between the years of 1937 and was published in 1954. The book was written by the English professor J.R.R. Tolkien. He studied languages and was a university professor teaching English.

The book is about a hobbit, a short and a bit more hairy version of a human, who must go on a mission to destroy a dark and powerful magic ring. Frodo, the hobbit, three of his hobbit friends and a wizard sets of towards a village where they are to meet up with a human warrior. Later on the way they also befriend a dwarf and an elf and together they venture out towards Mordor, the land of the dark lord Sauron. In Mordor they must throw the ring in the very volcano it was forged in, for the fire that created it is the only power on Middle Earth that can destroy it. But the land is filled with traps, dangerous creatures and orcs. It is a hard task the group has to complete, and even though the books has been out for 60 years I won't spoil the end.

When I read the books it didn't really give me a special feeling or anything, but it was fun reading it. I don't really have any special memories either, but he was very good at literature and describing the world and what's happening in it, if anything, that's my special memory. However afterwards when I got to know how much lore Tolkien created around his world, it caught my attention. I haven't really looked it up that much, but I really like reading about lore, and he built up an entire world, so someday I will read his other books and read about the gigantic world he created.

Questions to the movie "The Island"

1. I think it’s hard to say the main theme of this film, and if so perhaps also hard to name. But I would say mainly Friendship and a bit love. I think this because after Jordan and Lincoln had escaped they chose to return and save the others, they wanted to help their friends. They could just have sailed away and never look back at what had happened. The question the film raises is if human cloning is OK. I think that depends on how you use this technology. As they did here with killing them to save the ”original”. That would be genocide and murder, but if you treat them as human beings and not some lifeline it would probably be OK. 
2. For what reason do you think Doctor Merrick’s decided to start the facility? What do you think the Island is really saying about human cloning? Are you surprised by this in a Hollywood film?:         I think Merrick started the facility for two reasons. The first is that he wanted to help people to live longer and keep them healthy. the second reason I think is money. He could earn really much by selling clones as a lifeline to keep you alive longer. The Island in this case is to keep the hopes up so the clones just wont give up. It’s a beam of light in their dark view of the world. I am not surprised to see this in a Hollywood film, I wouldn’t be surprised by any movie made by them. Unless it’s a really really bad movie. 
3. What is the message of the film regarding the value of human life? How does this work with the fact that the film also contains a lot of violence?:         I think the message is that every human is of the same value and have the same potential as others. Even though someone is good at football and someone else is good at math. Also that you shouldn’t value others less because they’re different. They might be clones but they are still living, thinking, breathing, understanding, smart humans. I think that Merrick in the end understands their potential and the harm two clones can do if they reached higher authority. Therefore he sent out Albert Laurent and his gang to kill them, because they could crash his entire facility.
4. What does Jordan mean when she says ”the Island is real, it’s us”. What if anything, is this saying about the human hope for some paradise or for heaven:      I think what she means is that if we go really deep, we or each other can be what we are looking for, the paradise. We could also be the start for it if we just stopped fighting each other. What it’s saying about our understanding for a paradise or heaven is that we are all seeking for a place that we can call our paradise. We want to come to a place where we can do what we love and that is like our own paradise.

Lucy

Lucy is a curious young girl in the age around 8-10 years old. She has dark brown short hair and a cute little face. She is very nice and positive, but also very energetic. Due to her age, she also like to play a lot of games, for ex. hide and seek. In the movie she is also very heroic and cares for everyone. So my conclusion is that she is a young, mature and sweet little child with a golden heart.

Grandma:

Grandma used to be a nice and happy person. Because she woke up before the sun and made pancakes and bacon.

She is also very connected to her home since she wanted to go back to New York and shows it by doing nothing.

She hasn’t left the house and is sleeping almost the whole day. That has made her grumpy since she didn’t want to go out with Val and instead got irritated. But I think she actually was a bit excited when her granddaughter wanted to go out and show her the beach.

She can’t be very old since she woke up so early and she seemed happy in the end and seemed to get her energy back. 

I think the reason why she became so strange was because she didn’t have anything to do. Which shows when she found the nice shells and got excited and wanted to start her own collection. After that she got happy again when she could do something in Florida.

After she stops crying the phone beeps. She feels ice cold while her fingers open up the text message. The text follows:

”We’re coming for you, you can’t hide”.

Emma panics and starts to cold sweat while she walks around in her room. She locks her door and put her cover over herself. She starts to cry again but stops when something catches her attention. She thought she heard something. There it was again. It sounded like a chopper in a distance. Emma takes her cover off and walks up to the window. Over the roof tops she sees a small black chopper that quickly comes closer. Emma panicks again and pulls big hairballs from her  head. She trips on the carpet and falls at the same time as the chopper fires at her wall. The bullet penetrates the whole wall and it explodes from the force push. Emma screams  and a man in an anonymous mask jumps in. He’s dressed in black with a gun in his holster. He grabs her and throw her into the chopper. The chopper door closes and everything goes black before her eyes. She wakes up in a small dark room with a window. behind the window she sees another guy dressed in black with an anonymous mask. He waves to her while a computer voice says ”good bye”. An exhaust opens up in the wall and a white gas fills the room. The next day in the news paper on the front page there is a picture of Emma with an anonymous card on her chest. The letters on the front page follows:

”Serial killers strike again”.

Dear diary:

These first days in Angelus have been like a nightmare. The trip to get here was really boring. I was warm and sweaty and sometimes I fell asleep. When we finally got to the city it got even worse. The house we were supposed to live in was a wreck. It was ready to fall apart any moment. Mom got all wicked and told herself that everything was going to be fine. 

We had to eat ordered food on the floor with only candles as light source. Our bedroom wasn’t much better. It smelled like wet dog and pee. When I woke up my brother had peed his bed, as usual. 

Then we went to my new school. The guy who filled in the paperwork said that I should go to the next line. He said that the girl I should stand behind’s name was Vicky. I saw her and fell in love immediately. I even forgot the word house and family.

Later that day I went to the beach to surf. I was doing pretty good, but then I fell and hit my balls. A guy called Egg came to me and helped me get home. Once there my family started to make fun of my injury. then we went to bed.

It had just stopped raining. A gang of pupils were sitting on a wall waiting for the school bell to ring. After a while they noticed they should have gotten in by now. When they went to look for the teachers no one is there. Everyone is gone. But their cars are still there. The pupils decide to call the police. When the police arrive, one of the pupils notices that the clock in the staff room had stopped. It showed half past two,l and that was when it started.

Barry was the best

Dalek Barry where on a mission to destroy the doctors second Tardis which was created when the doctor flew through a wormhole. Dalek Barry was teleported to the Devoura system where one of the Dalek’s satellites had tracked a signal from the Tardis. Barry had the orders to exterminate everything that got in his way if it was necessary. His casing protected him from the space vacuum. He activated his scans, radars and energy sensors. He flew around in 4 days until he finally spotted a weak signal from the doctors Tardis. Luckily the shields wasn’t up, so Dalek Barry used his emergency temporal shift to teleport in. Barry saw an exact copy of the real Tardis. But he immediately executed his orders and fired his blaster into the time vortex. The second Tardis was destroyed, but Dalek Barry got trapped in the space time void where he was stuck.

Hello dear Alex.

I’m here, in Sweden, visiting their Christmas. It is snow everywhere and the houses is filled with decorations. I’m in a big street in Stockholm, where they have a huge Christmas tree, filled with Christmas decorations. I’m going to spend Christmas eve with my exchange parents, since I’m here as an exchange student. They have made a wonderful Christmas smorgasbord. They have ham, hearing, sausages, meatballs and more!

But they spend Christmas a bit different. Santa comes on the 24:th evening instead of during the night. And they put their presents under the Christmas tree. After everyone got their presents, they start open them. Then they watch Donald Duck in swedish, well... not everyone does that... but still. After that they check out their presents and then go to bed.
